COP 27, Achieving the world's collective climate goals..
Annually, the Conference of the Parties (COP) provides a forum for nations to coordinate efforts to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations "at a level that would preclude hazardous anthropogenic (human-induced) interference with the climate system".
COP27
It has been the hottest period on record over the last seven years. Global lockdowns temporarily reduced greenhouse gas emissions, but rates have recovered to pre-pandemic levels since then. The Conference of the Parties conference (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2022 has the highest possible stakes. In a few weeks, delegates from almost 200 nations, including more than 100 heads of state, will gather in the resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh on Egypt's eastern coast for 12 days of activities and formal talks with businessmen, religious leaders, climate scientists, local politicians, and activists. The objective is to strengthen and speed up the global response to the climate disaster, which is still wreaking devastation on the planet.
Every year, both COP participants and non-participants agree that this year's COP is the most crucial one thus far and the one where we must unquestionably come together for our shared cause. and each year, it turns out, they're right. However, the conflict has been a feature of almost every COP meeting, particularly between the Global North and the Global South and between nations attempting to transition away from fossil fuels and nations that are either unable or unwilling to do so. It will also play a part in this one. (Neither has the conflict in Ukraine, which has affected global energy markets, helped to promote peace and harmony.)
5 key areas to watch at COP27
1. Nature
2- Food
3- Water
4- Industry Decarbonization
5- Climate adaption
